The Violence Awareness and Random Acts of Kindness (VARAK) Program began in 1997 in remembrance of Mark Fyke and in recognition of all victims of violence, especially Becky Middleton and Shawn Keegan.
The purpose of the VARAK program is to promote positive energy to counteract the negative effects of senseless violence in our society and to celebrate members of our community who make kindness a part of their lives daily.
The Kindness Citizen of the Year is co-sponsored by Quinte Mall Charm Diamond Centre and the Intelligencer. Anyone who performs an act of kindness can be nominated.
Nomination forms are available HERE, in the Intelligencer Newspaper and at varak.ca.
All nominations can be faxed (613) 968-9495, dropped off at the Quinte Mall Guest Services kiosk or email the required information to [email protected] or [email protected].
All nominations received are entered in the draw and on the Saturday, of VARAK week, the winner is picked by a random draw.
The winner get their name put on the pillar in Kindness Court. They also receive a plaque in recognition of their acts of kindness. Remember, any act of kindness no matter how small truly shows there are Angels among us.
